The Gifts of 2012

December is a month for wrapping things up: the gifts we’ve collected for our loved ones as well as the trials and tribulations of our year as it races towards its end.

Many of us will open the gifts our loved ones chose for us at the end of this month.  Some of us will even take the time to unwrap the gifts we’ve given ourselves each month through our trials and tribulations.

Take three slow, deep breaths, breathing in peace, and breathing out stress.

Touch the ground with your hands or the body part of your choice, and imagine all stress, fear, distraction, pain, and anger melting out of your being and into the earth.

Close your eyes and imagine a closed door in front of you.  Know that on the other side of this door is a special celebratory room just for you.  When you open the door you will find a cozy space, festively decorated for Yule with a tree and food and wrapped presents and everything that means Yule to you.

Open the door and step in.  Take a moment to drink in the sights, smells, and sounds of your own personal Yule celebration.  Allow yourself to get in the holiday spirit, celebrating all the best parts of life so far and preparing for the adventures of the coming year.

When you are ready, approach the gifts.  How many are there?  Who are they from?

Choose a gift to open, a gift that you gave yourself this year.  Open it.  What do you find inside?  How do you feel holding this gift in your hands?  How will you use this gift in the coming year?

Open and explore as many gifts as you like during your meditation.

When you are ready, open the door back to your presence, and step through.  Take three fortifying breaths, and open your eyes.

Journal about your experience.

Blessed Yule!
